Mom and Dad’s incredible journey begins in Portugal, where they meet in 2019 at a 3D design course—Mom was 28 and teaching interior design classes, and Dad, 27, was dreaming of becoming an architect in Canada. In 2021, during the pandemic, they find a farm in Salmon Arm, BC, where they work in exchange for food and shelter, making their dream of moving to Canada a reality. Mom even adopts two lambs from the farm! They make many wonderful friends in Salmon Arm, and four months later, with a trusty Pontiac Aztec, they find jobs in Vancouver and Abbotsford and settle in Surrey. On May 28, 2022, they get married on a beautiful farm in Salmon Arm, surrounded by both their families and friends. Two years later, they become permanent residents and buy a cozy apartment near Gateway Station in Surrey in 2023. By 2024, their lives take a magical turn—Mom is pregnant! On October 24, baby David is born, a healthy 4.5 kg bundle of joy. Mom’s parents fly in from Portugal to help, while Dad’s parents adore David from afar. Emma looks closely and says, "The well has a metal cover. That’s special!" Page 5 Next, they visit the Tin Hau Temple. Emma is surprised and says, "There are so many statues in the temple!" The teacher explains, "These are the gods that protect the village. We can pray here for blessings." Page 6 In the temple, the kids see two old bronze bells. Emma asks, "What are these bells for?" The teacher says, "People ring the bells to tell the gods and pray for safety." Page 7 Before the trip ends, the kids take pictures on the village path. They agree to come back next time to join the village’s traditional activities and learn more about the culture. Page 8 Back at school, Alex and Emma excitedly share their trip stories. Everyone listens with great interest, looking forward to the day they can explore Lung Yeuk Tau together!
